We would like to welcome, Dr. Kate Queen, who is joining our LMC team as a clinician and will also serve as our new Medical Director. Dr Queen is board certified by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine and comes to LMC with years of experience developing programs that focus on lifestyle interventions in the care of individuals with chronic diseases. She served as Medical Director for Haywood Health and Fitness Center, a hospital based medical fitness center for more than 20 years. In 1991, she developed a regional Osteoporosis Center with grant support from the Duke Endowment. With funding from the Janirve Foundation, she launched a mobile density testing program in 1996 to support providers and patients in rural counties throughout western NC. Dr. Queen was a Hartford Practice Change Fellow between 2009-2010, and during that time also obtained a TRacs grant from UNC Chapel Hill. Her work focused on the development and implementation a model that integrated fall risk assessment into routine bone density testing. In 2011, she was appointed to the Western North Carolina Health Network Triple Aim Council where she led the Triple Aim Fall Prevention work group and received an additional Hartford Foundation grant to work on fall prevention strategies using Home Health and EMS providers in rural communities. Most recently she has been site PI for the WE CAN clinical trial, an NIH funded investigation assessing the impact of weight loss and physical activity on pain and function in patients with knee osteoarthritis, in communities throughout NC.
